Dinosaur Ridge

We went to Dinosaur Ridge with some friends one day while Justin was working. It's the perfect time of year to be in the mountains, it's so green and ALIVE! The part the boys liked best was digging in the sand. We took a guided tour of the ridge and the guide pointed out some not-so-obvious fossils in the mountain, which Deborah and I found interesting, but the boys were not impressed. The tour became more of a chaos containment operation. There were some men from England also on the tour, and they were Britishly polite and patient with the five wild children thrashing about the vehicle. We didn't feel guilty, though. The tour guide approached us and asked if we wanted a tour, knowing we had five very young children in tow.
Did you know that the spikes on the stegosaurus were floppy? And they could lower and raise them to look more intimidating, like a porcupine? That's what I learned on that trip.

They would have been content just playing in the sand the whole time.

D liked the bus ride, but he was a little nervous.

D climbed right up the ridge with fossil footprints, then turned around and yelled for help. It was funny.

Mason thought this was a big fossil footprint, it's really a hole from where someone dug the fossil out. We'll tell him one day.

Our crew. It was fun.

And these adventures usually mean we miss naptime. This is our buddy Coalton, waiting for his mom to get the carseats back in her car.
